History of Maternity Wear
An object-based history of dress for pregnancy and breastfeeding in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Drawn from museum collections in the UK, USA, Canada and Australia. This work is the subject of my PhD thesis, current and future articles and an evolving book manuscript.
Material Lives and Maternal Bodies
Short Term Winterthur Fellowship, 2020-2021 (postponed due to COVID). Project will involve researching objects and trade catalogues in the Museum and Library related to the design and marketing of maternity fashion.
Self-Fashioning and Female University Students
Researching the sartorial choices and negotiations of early female students at Australian universities. This article-length project will explore complex and competing attitudes towards dress, gender and education in the period.
